The columbian foriegn policy has shifted away from the U.S. and towards Venezuela with President Hugo Chavez. This concerns many because in the past we have had good relations with Columbia but a lot of Columbians believe that it had been one sided, that they've helped us but we haven't done anything for them. The trade deal with Columbia has yet to be passed by the U.S. Congress. While waiting on us, Columbian President Juan Manual Santos made several other trade agreements with different countries. Columbia and Venezeula have vowed to build stronger ties.
I was not aware that we even had trade relations with these people, let alone the fact that they are diminishing as the Congress still waits to decide to ratify the trade deal. I think it might be dangerous for Santos to be getting so close to Chavez while not even having visited Washington D.C. since his August election. This may eventually affect us, I don't know how important trade with this area is so I can't say for sure but it's probably not a good thing.
