Current Event: Deadly casino fire 'got out of control,' suspects tell police
Suspects were arrested in the case of a casino fire that was not intended to harm anyone. The fire happened in Monterrey, Mexico and the actual target was just the casino. The five suspects were members of a drug cartel, the arson was a result of the casino owners not cooperating with the cartel’s demands. Police are still searching for the owner of the casino who they think may have fled to the United States. The suspects have previous violent records as well as many drug cartels who have been committing crimes in which many have been killed. In the fire, over 52 people were injured or killed.

Katie Teator's First Blog Entry in Spanish 2

This semester I hope to get an A but from what I've heard about spanish 2 that's pretty impossible so I'll be happy with a B.
In my other classes I'll be getting A's because they are really easy.
It's senior year so I'm ready to graduate and go to NC state.

I blogged last year in spanish 1 and its okay.

Blog #6- Poesía

Ohh, who's excited for a blog on poetry... not me.

The poem I chose is...

Tiempo by: Beatriz Tuxpan

The poet is Beatriz Tuxcan, google provides no information on her. I don't really know what this poem is talking about besides it being about time. I like the way it flows even though I can't tell what it means. It also says alegro which means happy (I think). I'm also taking a wild guess in the fact that memoria means memory? Here's my poem:

Espanol by Katie
Me gusta la clase de espanol
es muy divertido
son las nueve y trienta

wonderful, i know.

Cruise to Mexico :)

For my vacation, I'm planning to take a cruise on the Holland America Line to Mexico. It's a 7-day Mexican Riviera in the Deluxe Verandah suite. It's huge so I'll be bringing friends.

We'll be porting in San Diego, California, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and Cabo San Lucas.

While in San Diego, I'm gonna go to Sea World, the World Famous San Diego Zoo, and of course lots of shopping! In Mexico I'll go on the ATV & Village Adventure, where I ride my own personal semiautomatic fourwheeler to explore the countryside and villages. In Cabo San Lucas, I'm going on the Beach Horseback Ride and go scuba diving. These are just the highlights, there is so much more to do.
Food is provided on the cruise and we'll stop at various shops and restaurants to try the variety of food in different places.
As far as money goes, I'll probably have to bring a few thousand just to be sure....

I've never been on a cruise so this will be an extra special occasion for me. The combination of activities on this vacation just blows my mind, if only it were real :)

Blog #4 Ella Baila Sola

First of all, here is my video.

The artist I chose for my blog is Ella Baila Sola. I thought the song for the video above sounded pretty so that's why I chose them.
Ella Baila Sola is a Latin pop duet from Spain. I had never heard of this band before today but they have been called the Dixie Chicks of Spanish music. They originally sang in English but changed the band's name to "Ella Baila Sola" from "Just" and started singing in Spanish.I like their music, it kind of sounds like it would be like an American popular girl band like the comparison I said before. They got Best Spanish Band at the Premios Amigo which is like an award show I'm guessing. The song in my video is Te Vas y Te Pierdo, which means "You Leave and I Lose You". It sounds like a sorrowful love song where the one she loves leaves her again and it hurts her.

Blog #3 A Single Story [a little late]

That women was smart, she saw what was going on around her and wanted to do something about it. We as teenagers are in such a rush all the time with schoolwork and social lives and work, that we don't notice things as much. When a judgement or a racsist comment flow so freely from the mouth, its hard to stop and see what were doing. I was really inspired by this video because she was right, the single story is dangerous, if humans continue to move about their daily lives thinking and believing such crude and ridiculous things like
"Americans are obese, gas guzzling, patriotic show-offs.", nothing good will come of it. This kind of thing happens at school all the time, kids jump to conclusions and believe every little rumor. We can help stop this by opening up our minds to the broad spectrum and not jump into believing everything so quickly.

Current Event (Spanish)

http://www.ihavenet.com/Latin-America-Colombia-Takes-a-Step-Back-From-United-States-AO.html

The columbian foriegn policy has shifted away from the U.S. and towards Venezuela with President Hugo Chavez. This concerns many because in the past we have had good relations with Columbia but a lot of Columbians believe that it had been one sided, that they've helped us but we haven't done anything for them. The trade deal with Columbia has yet to be passed by the U.S. Congress. While waiting on us, Columbian President Juan Manual Santos made several other trade agreements with different countries. Columbia and Venezeula have vowed to build stronger ties.

I was not aware that we even had trade relations with these people, let alone the fact that they are diminishing as the Congress still waits to decide to ratify the trade deal. I think it might be dangerous for Santos to be getting so close to Chavez while not even having visited Washington D.C. since his August election. This may eventually affect us, I don't know how important trade with this area is so I can't say for sure but it's probably not a good thing.

Katie's First Blog

el 2 febrero 2011
This semester in Spanish 1, I hope to learn some Spanish and get an A. I don't particularly want to learn another language, but seeing as how its a graduation requirement for me, I have to be here. I plan on keeping my mind open even though I don't want to learn Spanish, so that maybe I can know what Hispanic people are saying around me in the future because their numbers are growing here in America.
As for blogging, its whatever for me. I've never had my own blog before because I usually just go on Facebook to talk to my friends and post my status. I don't see the need for a blog when there are many socially networking sites to communicate but it doesn't bother me to have a blog for class. I guess it's a good way for a class as a whole to communicate outside of school without using Facebook.
